SANFORDING

It goes something like this:

Question: "Where are you going this weekend?

Answer: "We are Sanfording"

What does that mean?

It means people have realized that downtown Sanford is the place to be on weekend nights.

Why?

The restaurants, the bars, the theater, the bookstore, the entertainment, all in a historical setting of many years ago.

Why not go to fibre glass world south of Orlando? Too many tourists.

Sanford is the place for those who actually live in Central Florida to have a good time without having to be surrounded with mouse ears and such.

Yes, sometimes it is hard to find parking right in front of the place you want to visit but it is a whole lot better than Orlando. In Sanford you can relax and be yourself, bring the family and the children.

In the past our city has gotten a bad rap. For years even city fathers were apologetic when telling where they were from. The low point was when our mayor voted for the Orlando North fiasco.

Now Sanford is the place to be on weekends. Let's capitalize on this success! With the tremendous impact of the opening of the 417-429 interchange with I-4, Sanford becomes the crossroad for traffic north of Orlando. We need to take advantage of our good fortune. Shout it to the rooftops that Sanford, after a hundred years in the shadows, has arrived. Don't resist the renaming of the airport to Sanford International. Encourage HCA to change to HCA Sanford, tell them their advertising consultants are behind the times. Get the more timid auto dealerships on board.

Sanford was the gateway to the interior of the state 150 years ago. Let's do it again.
